Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Botswana Collaborate on Major Infrastructure Projects

Cabinet received a report on the Tripartite Summit concerning the Techobanine Port Project and Limpopo Railway Line, presented by Honourable Prof. Amon Murwira, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.President Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa attended the summit on July 12, 2024, at Malibangalala Bay Resort in Mozambique, hosted by President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi of Mozambique. President Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana also participated.The Techobanine Port project aims to improve transport integration and connectivity among Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Botswana, enhancing regional trade and the movement of people and goods. The summit saw the three leaders agree to utilize existing transport infrastructure and conduct a comprehensive assessment of railway lines to identify areas for collaborative intervention. They signed the Declaration on the Development of the Ponta Techobanine Project, reaffirming their commitment to implement the project and improve the existing railway line for better efficiency.President Mnangagwa highlighted the project’s significance in advancing the National Development Strategy 1, Vision 2030, and the African Union’s Agenda 2063. He noted that the project would boost investments in the mining, transport, and related industries of the three countries.Additionally, President Mnangagwa briefed his counterparts on Zimbabwe’s preparations for the upcoming 44th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, set to take place in August 2024.
