A faction of the CCC led by Professor Welshman Ncube, which is in conflict with the Chamisa faction led by Jameson Timba, held a National Council meeting yesterday. During the meeting, several resolutions were made. They decided that Senator Sengezo Tshabangu has always been a genuine executive member of the CCC but was used by Chamisa’s unclear strategies. They plan to talk with government agencies and Tshabangu to maintain control of the CCC. The CCC will accept Tshabangu as part of the National Council. They also decided that when a member like Chamisa leaves the organization, he should be replaced, and Chamisa’s image will be removed from the party’s logo. The new principles guiding the party will be Structure, Strategy, and Culture. The CCC will review recommendations from Electoral Observer Missions (EOMs) and engage with ZANU PF and the government to end disputed elections. Supporters of Chamisa are angry, accusing CCC Vice President Lynette Karenyi-Kore, Secretary General Charlton Hwende, and CCC Spokesperson Jacob Mafume of betraying Chamisa.
Professor Ncube admitted that he had to retract his previous statement that Tshabangu was an impostor, acknowledging that he was a senior member of the CCC, benefiting from Chamisa’s strategic ambiguity. This contradicts the claim that Tshabangu is a ZANU PF project; he has always been aligned with Professor Ncube.
The CCC National Council meeting showed democratic principles in action, contrasting with past divisive tactics in the opposition. Strategic ambiguity has caused confusion within the party, threatening democratic gains. ZANU PF remains focused on preserving these democratic principles.
The CCC’s decision to remove Chamisa’s face from the party logo marks a shift away from autocratic symbols.
Chamisa’s supporters are stuck in the past, calling those who have moved on sell-outs. They should not blame those who refuse to follow Chamisa, who has resigned. Instead of attacking those who have found new leadership, they should seek their own path or risk becoming irrelevant.
