
A high-level delegation from the Indonesian Parliament, led by the esteemed Vice Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Body (BKSAP), concluded a successful visit to Zimbabwe from June 11th to June 14th, 2024. Comprising three distinguished members, the delegation’s mission was to enhance inter-parliamentary relations between Indonesia’s House of Representatives and the Parliament of Zimbabwe.
The diplomatic relationship between Indonesia and Zimbabwe dates back to 1986 when the Indonesian Embassy was established in Zimbabwe. In 2004, Zimbabwe reciprocated by opening its embassy in Indonesia. This long-standing relationship laid a solid foundation for the promotion of parliamentary diplomacy during the recent visit.

Book NowDuring their stay, the Indonesian delegation expressed keen interest in venturing into Zimbabwe’s economic and agricultural sectors, ICT, mining, education, and climate change initiatives. They highlighted the importance of bilateral cooperation in these areas to foster mutual growth and development.
The delegation also acknowledged Indonesia’s previous support to Zimbabwe, notably the $150 million USD aid provided during Cyclone Idai. They reiterated their commitment to extending assistance for food security to mitigate the effects of drought. Additionally, scholarships were discussed as a means to strengthen educational ties between the two nations.
Hon. Shamu emphasized Zimbabwe’s stance as “an enemy to none and a friend to all,” reiterating that the country is open for business. He noted that Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) between the two countries are underway, further solidifying their partnership.
Both parties encouraged each other to advocate for global peace, particularly concerning the situation in Palestine. The Indonesian delegation’s advocacy for international peace and solidarity underscored the visit, reinforcing the shared commitment to global harmony.
This visit marked a significant step in fortifying the bonds of friendship between Indonesia and Zimbabwe, paving the way for continued collaboration, mutual growth, and a united stance on international issues.
