
Honorable OCZ Muchinguri-Kashiri, the ZANU PF National Chairman and Minister of Defence, addressed the International Interparty BRICS Plus Forum on June 17, 2024, emphasizing the importance of indivisible and equal security in achieving lasting international peace.
In her address, Muchinguri-Kashiri highlighted the urgent need for a collaborative approach to tackle emerging global threats, including geopolitical shifts, unilateralism, armed conflicts, climate change, economic inequity, terrorism, disinformation, and cyber insecurity. She stressed that security threats in one region can impact global stability, necessitating a unified response from all nations.

She noted that despite unilateral and hegemonic tendencies by some nations, developing countries are increasingly becoming pivotal in maintaining international peace and security. She emphasized the need for reforms in the United Nations, advocating for the inclusion of developing countries as permanent members of the Security Council with veto power.
The Minister of Defence praised the role of African countries in UN peacekeeping missions, citing their significant contributions since 2013. She underscored the importance of multilateralism and regional cooperation through organizations like the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in combating terrorism and promoting peace.
Muchinguri-Kashiri also highlighted the significance of bilateral and multilateral military cooperation among developing countries, mentioning initiatives such as the African Union’s Silencing of the Guns Initiative. She expressed gratitude for the support from international partners like the Russian Federation in defense and security capacity-building programs.
Concluding her speech, Muchinguri-Kashiri criticized unilateral actions by certain countries, arguing that such actions undermine collective security and the credibility of international security systems. She called for collective efforts through multilateral frameworks to address global security challenges and acknowledged the Russian Federation’s role in fostering international cooperation for peace and development.
The forum, chaired by Klimov Andrei, Member of the Bureau of the Supreme Council of the United Russia Party, provided a platform for political parties to discuss and propose solutions for sustainable common security and lasting peace.
