President Mnangagwa Pays Tribute to Malawian VP Saulos Chilima After Fatal Plane Crash

President Mnangagwa expressed grief and condolences yesterday following the death of Malawi’s Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine others in a plane crash earlier this week.In his condolence message, President Mnangagwa lauded the late VP for his contributions to African integration and bilateral relations.

“With great shock and sadness, I learned of the tragic plane crash that took the lives of Malawi’s Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima and former First Lady Shanil Muluzi nee Dzimiri, among other Malawian patriots,” said President Mnangagwa. “On behalf of the Government and people of Zimbabwe, and personally, I offer our deepest condolences and sorrow to the Government and people of Malawi, and to the families of the deceased.

We wish you resilience in overcoming this tragedy.”President Mnangagwa emphasized Dr. Chilima’s legacy in promoting cooperation between Malawi and Zimbabwe and his vision for a united Africa.“Dr. Chilima will be eternally remembered for his tireless work in strengthening bilateral relations between Malawi and Zimbabwe and in promoting African integration,” he said.Malawi has recognized Dr. Chilima with a state funeral and declared a 21-day period of mourning. Vice President Chilima, aged 51, had served since 2014.
