“Geo Pomana’s Green Revolution: Transforming Harare’s Urban Landscape for a Sustainable Future”

In a remarkable turn of events since its takeover of the Pomona dump site in Harare in April 2022, Geo Pomona Waste Management (Geo Pomona), a nationally recognised and admired project, has spearheaded development which is in line with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).

Under the astute and able leadership of Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman, Dr Dilesh Nguwaya, the USD 28 million project has swiftly transformed the landscape, ushering in a new era of sustainability and progress.

During a recent tour, media outlets witnessed firsthand the metamorphosis of the project into a vibrant green park. With a commitment to combat air pollution, Geo Pomona has introduced innovative measures that deliver a cleaner and greener future for Harare’s residents.

One of the notable achievements highlighted by Dr. Nguwaya is the establishment of state-of-the-art sporting facilities, endorsed by FIFA and ready for public use. This initiative not only promotes an active lifestyle but also fosters community engagement and sportsmanship.

Furthermore, the construction of a sorting plant marks a significant step towards effective waste management and the waste is efficiently processed in a waste-to-energy plant. This plant, set to generate up to 22 megawatts of electricity from methane produced by decomposing waste, will substantially alleviate electricity shortages and contribute to the national grid.

Addressing concerns regarding hazardous waste, Geo Pomona has established a dedicated dumping site, ensuring proper disposal and mitigating environmental hazards. This strategic move not only enhances public and environmental safety but also streamlines waste management processes.

Dispelling rumors of discord, Dr. Nguwaya affirmed Geo Pomona’s amicable relationship with the Harare City Council. Both entities are poised to forge a partnership agreement, particularly in the realm of refuse collection, further solidifying their commitment to enhancing municipal services.

As Geo Pomona continues to forge ahead with its visionary initiatives, it is a testament to the power of innovation in fostering inclusive and environmentally conscious urban development.
