VICE PRESIDENT Kembo Mohadi yesterday reiterated that Government will continue to prioritise the re-industrialisation of Bulawayo, and assured residents that they will continue to benefit from the equitable distribution of the national cake.
Addressing Zanu-PF party supporters at Gampu Primary School in Mpopoma suburb in the city as he concluded the campaign trail for party candidates ahead of tomorrow’s by-elections, VP Mohadi said in line with the Second Republic’s drive of leaving no one and no place in development, Government remains committed to addressing challenging facing Bulawayo.
“I want to assure you, the people of Bulawayo that the Government will never leave you out in terms of development as the Second Republic wants to ensure equitable distribution of the national cake,” he said.
VP Mohadi said for Bulawayo to develop and overcome some of its challenges, it is important for residents to vote out the opposition party.
“We will never leave you alone but you must give us people from Bulawayo whom we are going to work with in Government. I always feel so much pain when we are in Cabinet doing Government business, but realise that there is no Minister from Bulawayo, surely why are you doing this to this great city,” he said.
“Some of you may say but we have Professor Mthuli Ncube, (Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion), yes he is there but, I can’t say he came from the people, no, he was a direct appointment by the President after you people of Bulawayo had rejected him in the August harmonised elections.”
VP Mohadi, who was drumming up support for Cde Dzingai Kamamba, the ruling party’s candidate for the Mpopoma-Mzilikazi parliamentary seat in tomorrow’s by-elections, said the Second Republic under President Mnangagwa has implemented several projects across the country, notably the Lake Gwayi-Shangani project, which upon completion will permanently address water challenges in Bulawayo
“Since assuming office in 2018, President Mnangagwa has, despite Bulawayo having voted for the opposition, implemented tangible developmental projects in the city,” he said.
“I have, however, come here to let you know that all hope is not lost, we can still reclaim Bulawayo. I also want to be realistic that we cannot will all the 12 seats in one go but give us something dear Bulawayo.”
VP Mohadi scoffed at the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), saying the opposition party is on the deathbed amid internal fights.
He said Zanu-PF should capitalise on the CCC confusion and woo supporters.
VP Mohadi tore into the opposition for running down major cities and towns in the country.
“We went to war, fought against the imperialists, got maimed and all this without being paid simply because we wanted to free our country.
“Some of our cadres never saw an independent Zimbabwe and then people have the audacity of calling us thieves,” he said.
“This is a mockery. How can we loot the very same country we went to war to free?”
Among those who attended the rally were Zanu-PF national deputy political commissar Cde Webster Shamu, Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Judith Ncube, Senator Molly Mpofu, Zanu-PF Politburo members Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube, and Cde Alice Dube, and the party’s Bulawayo provincial leadership.
