Zimbabwe to Host Mid-Term Review Meeting of Second Joint Permanent Commission with Rwanda

Harare, Zimbabwe – May 27-28, 2024

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Zimbabwe has announced that Harare will host the Mid-Term Review Meeting of the Second Joint Permanent Commission on Co-operation (JPCC) between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Republic of Rwanda. The event, scheduled for May 27-28, 2024, aims to bolster the mutual cooperation between the two nations across various sectors.

This meeting will focus on a wide range of collaborative efforts, including trade and investment, tourism, agriculture, mineral resources, the exchange of educational personnel and expertise, climate change initiatives, and media cooperation.

Since the establishment of Zimbabwe’s Second Republic, diplomatic relations between Zimbabwe and Rwanda have flourished. The Mid-Term Review serves as a crucial platform to assess the progress of the numerous Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and agreements signed during the Second Session of the Zimbabwe-Rwanda JPCC held in Rwanda in May 2023.

The JPCC underscores the shared commitment of Zimbabwe and Rwanda to deepen and strengthen their bilateral relations, aiming for the mutual benefit of Michael Chiwoneso Mukura, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, emphasized the importance of this meeting as a follow-up mechanism to ensure the effective implementation of the bilateral agreements. The continued cooperation between the two “sisterly countries” reflects their collective ambition to achieve greater economic and social progress.

The Ministry remains committed to fostering international relations that support national development and the well-being of its people.
