CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa throws in the towel

Nelson Chamisa

Nelson Chamisa has quit as president of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), an opposition outfit he founded barely two years ago.

Chamisa had lost control of the echelons of power in the party to Interim Secretary General, Sengezo Tshabangu whose mission was to right the wrongs experienced in the nomination or election of party candidates in the run up to the 2023 elections. There was massive imposition of candidates by Chamisa and big wigs such as Tendai Biti and Welshman Ncube were sidelined in the process.

Tshabangu and his “allies” recalled dozens of CCC legislators and councillors in the process. Chamisa lost court cases to reverse recalls.

His resignation which is with immediate effect all but confirm that he has accepted defeat. The project he envisaged has all but crumbled and its back to the drawing board for the divided opposition in Zimbabwe.

Chamisa informed the nation on X,

“This is to officially, and under my hand, inform you that, with immediate effect, I no longer have anything to do with CCC”, he wrote on X.

He wrote a 13-page statement making unsubstantiated claims against state institutions.
