The bridge linking Nyatsime Ward 9 to Chitungwiza was swept away by heavy rains which pounded the country last Sunday.

Residents have been left in a quandary as this was their connection to the rest of Chitungwiza. Pedestrians, vehicles and Kombis used the bridge.

Positive Eye Spoke to the Councillor of the area to share his thoughts about the disaster.

Councillor Walter Mapuranga of ZANU PF is new in office after emerging victorious in the 23-24 August 2023 harmonised elections.

However he has swung into action in collaboration with the community to ensure there is service delivery and the safety of people in the area.

Regularisation of the area by the government is pending and is expected to bring sanity and services which are currently lacking.

However he has swung into action in collaboration with the community to ensure there is service delivery in the area.

Councillor Mapuranga explained his vision for the area.

“I am a newly elected councillor. My aim and vision is to oversee regularisation of the area so that our development agenda as espoused by His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa is realised even here in Nyatsime.

The President is on record saying no one and no place should be left behind as the country moves towards achieving vision 2030″, said Councillor Mapuranga.

He bemoaned the lack of support from council.

“The challenge is that we have limited resources. We are carrying out our own initiatives without Chitungwiza Town Council’s intervention”, he said.

Council has promised to do something about the plight of the Nyatsime residents. However to this end nothing has been forthcoming.

The Councillor together with the community built another small bridge for people to use before the other one was swept by the rains. These initiatives are meant to ensure people of the area access other areas with easy.

He appealed for assistance from well wishers and companies around the area.

The Councillor urged the community to put the electioneering period behind and focus on the development of their communities.

“The election period is done and dusted. I call upon even my political foes to come foward and work with us as we focus on developing our area and the country. My office is open. Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo”, said the Councillor.

If the government and communities team up for a worth cause nothing can hinder progress.

The clarion call for residents of Nyatsime is for intervention on regularisation, borehole drilling and improved service delivery from Council.
