China calls for removal of unlawful sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe

China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning

The People’s Republic of China has added its voice on calls for the removal of unlawful sanctions on Zimbabwe.

China through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement condemning the sanctions and highlighting their impact on the Southern African country.

“Today on the occasion of the fifth Anti-Sanctions Day, we noted that multiple African countries have once again strongly called for lifting of sanctions.

China supports that,” read the statement by Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning.

China has been unequivocal about sanctions removal. The sanctions which were imposed on Zimbabwe two decades ago have seriously violated the country’s sovereignty and infringed upon the development right of the Zimbabwean people.

Zimbabwe deserves better treatment, thus the call for the removal of the unlawful sanctions.

China castigated the US and its Western allies for interfering and curtailing Zimbabwe’s development trajectory.

“China, as always, firmly supports Zimbabwe in opposing external interference and keeping to its own development path”, said Mao Ning.

China called on the few countries that imposed the sanctions to lift them.

“We once again urge the few countries and organisations to listen to the international call for justice, lift the unlawful sanctions on Zimbabwe as soon as possible, take responsible and concrete steps to help the country develop its economy and improve people’s wellbeing, and play a constructive role in promoting world peace and development.”

The sanctions removal by China dovetails with the world’s position. Sanctions are unlawful or illegal, they were imposed by a few countries who would want the world to believe they hold the keys for development and decides when and what to do to perceived foes.

A case in example is the United States of America’s support of Israel in its war with Palestine. Historically, the Palestinians were disenfranchised of their right to their land. Yet America supports the oppressor, Israeli who expropriated land and set up illegal settlements in Palestinian territory.

The time is now for the unconditional removal removal of the unlawful sanctions.
