Sandon Academy Commissions Smart School Facility

Sandon Academy in Gutu, Masvingo Province, officially commissioned its state-of-the-art smart school facility and digital education system in late October 2026.

The institution, owned by the Minister of State for National Security, Honourable Lovemore Matuke, has grown significantly since its establishment in 2016 and has consistently produced excellent academic results.

The facility was officially opened by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Professor Torerayi Moyo, who commended the institution for setting high standards in Zimbabwe and the SADC region.

The smart school ecosystem integrates digital classroom tools with automated platforms that track student attendance, monitor teacher performance, and identify individual learning needs and gaps. It also supports enhanced learner supervision, AI-driven student monitoring and analytics, personnel security surveillance, and remote access to lessons beyond the physical classroom. The system further enables multi-site virtual seminar delivery, allowing a teacher in Gutu to teach learners across other centres simultaneously.

What began as a single school in 2016 has grown into the Sandon Group of Schools, which runs day and boarding facilities for primary and secondary learners in Gutu, Chiredzi, Masvingo and Beatrice. Since inception, the group has recorded strong outcomes in both ZIMSEC and Cambridge assessments, anchored by a highly qualified and experienced teaching faculty.

The programme aligns directly with Vision 2030 and NDS2 by bridging the digital divide for rural learners, advancing the Heritage-Based Curriculum, promoting inclusive and equitable access to quality education, and building the human capital and innovation capacity required for an upper-middle-income knowledge economy.
