The government has warned stakeholders to disregard an event advertised as Zimbabwe Mining Week 2026, saying the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development is not involved in any capacity.
In a public notice released on 15 October, the Ministry said its attention had been drawn to promotional material circulating online that presents it as the official host of the event and uses the national Coat of Arms.
The Ministry dismissed the claim, stating the use of its name and the national emblem was unauthorised and was done without its consent.
The said event, which is also advertising a pre-event webinar on energy challenges in the mining sector slated for November and directing users to the website http://zimminingweek.com, is not a Ministry initiative.
Secretary for Mines and Mining Development Dr. Thomas Utete Wushe said the Ministry is not organising, sponsoring, partnering or participating in the said Mining Week or its webinar, and has not endorsed it.
He cautioned the public, investors and mining industry players that any engagement with the organisers – including registration, payment or sharing of personal or company details – is done at their own risk, with Government bearing no liability for any resulting loss.
The Ministry reminded the public that all legitimate programmes and partnerships are announced only through its official website, its verified social media handles and established national media.
It added that the unauthorised use of its official identity and national symbols is a serious matter and legal recourse will be considered.
Stakeholders seeking confirmation of any event linked to the Ministry were advised to contact the Ministry’s toll-free number 08004577.
