Zimre Holdings Posts 15% Profit Growth to ZWG287.6 Million in Half Year to June 2026

Diversified insurance group Zimre Holdings Limited has reported a solid performance for the half year ended 30 June 2026, with profit for the period rising 15% to ZWG287.6 million from ZWG249.7 million in the prior year, driven by growth in insurance revenue and a stronger net investment performance.

According to the group’s unaudited interim condensed consolidated special purpose financial statements, insurance contract revenue grew to ZWG1.22 billion from ZWG1.079 billion, reflecting growth across its regional reinsurance operations. Insurance service expenses increased to ZWG1.117 billion from ZWG795 million, resulting in an insurance service result of ZWG105.8 million compared to ZWG188.6 million last year.

The group’s net investment income more than doubled to ZWG282 million from ZWG112.7 million, supported by fair value gains from financial instruments at fair value through profit or loss, fair value gains on investment properties of ZWG98.6 million and rental income. Net insurance and investment result improved to ZWG365.6 million from ZWG290.6 million.

Total assets grew to ZWG8.65 billion as at 30 June 2026 from ZWG7.98 billion as at 31 December 2025, underpinned by growth in investment properties which stood at ZWG2.72 billion, financial assets at fair value through profit or loss of ZWG2.16 billion, and insurance and reinsurance contract assets which collectively stood at ZWG1.16 billion.

Equity attributable to equity holders of the parent increased to ZWG1.86 billion from ZWG1.68 billion at year-end, while total equity stood at ZWG2.58 billion. Total liabilities stood at ZWG6.07 billion, largely comprising insurance contract liabilities of ZWG3.99 billion and investment contract liabilities of ZWG894 million.

On a segmental basis, the non-life reinsurance business remained the largest contributor to insurance revenue at ZWG849.3 million, followed by life and pensions at ZWG221.2 million. Geographically, Zimbabwe remained the dominant market with insurance contract revenue of ZWG624.2 million, followed by Malawi at ZWG186.9 million, Mozambique at ZWG171.5 million and Zambia at ZWG136.3 million.

Basic earnings per share improved to 14.78 ZWG cents from 10.62 ZWG cents, while headline earnings per share rose to 14.82 ZWG cents from 10.64 ZWG cents.

The company declared a dividend of USD1.2 million or USD0.00066 per share in respect of the 2025 financial year, which was paid in June 2026. For the current period, the group declared and paid ZWG32.1 million in dividends compared to ZWG20.07 million in the prior half year.

The company has adequate resources to continue operating for the foreseeable future and has adopted the going concern basis in preparing the interim results.

Zimre Holdings is listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange and its principal activities include insurance, reinsurance, life assurance, asset management, property development and micro-lending, with operations in Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique and Botswana.
