Award-winning musician Jah Prayzah has announced he will miss the Simon Chimbetu commemorations in Chegutu this Saturday due to a prior commitment in Nyanga. The artist, who had appeared on the festival poster, said he will be attending the Mountain Valley Marathon on the same day, and has urged fans to support the Chimbetu family as they celebrate the legacy of the late dendera music icon.
The music giant, who was billed on the event poster, announced his withdrawal on 23 September, explaining that he will be in Nyanga for the Mountain Valley Marathon on the same day.
In a statement addressed to his fans and the Chimbetu family, Jah Prayzah said he would have loved to be part of the special celebration in honour of the late Mudhara Simon Chimbetu and the beautiful legacy he left behind.
“I would have loved to be part of this special celebration of the late Mudhara Simon Chimbetu and the beautiful legacy he left us. Unfortunately, I will be in Nyanga for the Mountain Valley Marathon on the same day and will not be able to attend,” he said.
He appealed to his fans in and around Chegutu, and those who will not make it to Nyanga, to turn out in support of the commemorations.
“To all my fans in and around Chegutu, and those who will not make it to Nyanga, please go out and support the Chimbetu family as we celebrate one of Zimbabwe’s great musical legacies,” he added.
The artist concluded by sending his love and best wishes to Sulumani Chimbetu and the entire Chimbetu family ahead of the festival, which celebrates one of Zimbabwe’s most revered musical legacies.
