The Zimbabwe Football Association, ZIFA, is mourning the passing of legendary coach and football educator Wiesław Grabowski, a man widely credited with shaping generations of Zimbabwean football talent.
In a statement, ZIFA said the association joins the entire football family in honoring Grabowski’s immense contribution to the development of the game in Zimbabwe. Coach Grabowski dedicated his life to nurturing young players, building pathways for talent and advancing coach education across the country. His unwavering commitment to youth development helped lay the foundations for many of Zimbabwe’s finest footballers.
Among his most celebrated achievements was guiding the Zimbabwe Under-23 national team to a historic silver medal at the 1995 All-Africa Games hosted in Zimbabwe. That landmark accomplishment remains one of the country’s proudest moments in international youth football. He was also known for his passion for identifying young players and for raising coaching standards, a legacy that left an indelible mark on the local game.
“On behalf of the ZIFA President, Executive Committee, General Secretary, staff and the entire Zimbabwean football fraternity, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Grabowski family, his friends, former players and colleagues during this difficult time,” ZIFA said.
The association described him as a true pioneer, mentor and servant of the game whose legacy will continue to inspire future generations of players, coaches and football administrators.
