HARARE – Government has broken ground for the construction of a new police station in Kuwadzana, a development aimed at decentralising policing services and improving security in one of Harare’s largest high-density suburbs.
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Hon. Chido Sanyatwe, officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony, saying the project reflects Government’s commitment to bringing policing services closer to communities and enhancing service delivery.
Hon. Sanyatwe said the construction of the new police station forms part of broader efforts to strengthen security infrastructure in line with Vision 2030 and improve the operational capacity of the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
The facility will comprise office blocks, accommodation for police officers, detention cells and other supporting infrastructure designed to improve policing efficiency and response times in Kuwadzana and surrounding areas.
The ceremony was attended by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Ambassador Raphael Tayerera Faranisi, Commissioner-General of Police Stephen Mutamba, senior and junior police officers, Government officials, business leaders and members of the local community.
Once completed, the new police station is expected to decongest neighbouring police stations while enhancing law enforcement visibility and accessibility for residents of Kuwadzana and surrounding communities.
The project forms part of Government’s ongoing investment in public security infrastructure to improve access to policing services and support safer communities across the country.
