Zimbabwe Showcases Sports Tourism and Hospitality as CAF President Arrives for COSAFA Assembly

“Zimbabwe is my home, we are all one people,” declared Patrice Motsepe upon arrival at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, highlighting the nation’s growing prominence in sports tourism and hospitality. The warm reception by Barbara Rwodzi signalled Zimbabwe’s intent to position itself as a premier destination for continental gatherings, using sport and culture to amplify its global profile.

The arrival coincided with the COSAFA Elective General Assembly, attracting football leadership from across Southern Africa, including Nqobile Magwizi and George Manyaya. The convergence of regional officials underscored Zimbabwe’s dual role as a hub for sport and tourism, leveraging international events to foster economic opportunity, regional integration, and diplomatic engagement.

During the reception, Patrice Motsepe praised Emmerson Mnangagwa for championing sports tourism, creating an environment conducive to investment, unity, and international collaboration. Minister Rwodzi reinforced this message, noting that sports tourism is a strategic vehicle for soft diplomacy, enhancing the nation’s image while generating opportunities for economic growth and positioning Zimbabwe as a peaceful and welcoming destination.

The visit exemplifies how Zimbabwe continues to integrate culture, tourism, and sport into a cohesive national strategy, ensuring that global attention is coupled with tangible development outcomes under the broader objectives of Vision 2030.
