Simba Bhora handed defending champions Scotland their first defeat of the season, securing a 2-1 win at Scotland’s home ground. The visitors overturned an early lead to claim maximum points in a thrilling match.
Khama Billiart put Scotland ahead in the 10th minute, slotting home a rebound from a Kingsley Mureremba shot. The hosts dominated the first half, with Khama missing a glorious chance to double the lead when he saw the Simba Bhora goalkeeper off his line.
However, coach Mandhla Mpofu’s halftime pep talk inspired Simba Bhora to a strong comeback. They equalized in the 56th minute through Nawaseb McCartney, who scored after a good build-up from the right flank involving Blessed Ndereki. The visitors took control, and Harrison Masina sealed the win with his fourth goal of the season in the 85th minute.
Scotland coach Norman Mapeza admitted his team failed to capitalize on their first-half chances. “We were in control of everything in the first half, but our opponents did n0t throw in the towel and came back strong,” he said.
Simba Bhora coach Mandhla Mpofu was delighted with the win. “No one gave us a chance coming into this game, but we took it to our opponents. They are one of the best teams in the league, and we did not take them lightly,” he said.
The win lifts Simba Bhora to seventh place with 16 points, while Scotland drops to fourth with 17 points.
