Fairfields Road Over Rail Bridge Construction Begins

The Government of Zimbabwe, through the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development, has announced the commencement of construction of the Fairfields road over rail bridge. The project, set to begin on May 3, 2026, is expected to be completed by November 30, 2026, and is a significant milestone in the implementation of the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).

The Fairfields road over rail bridge is a critical infrastructure project located on the Harare-Beitbridge road, a key international connection for traffic from various countries in the region. To facilitate the construction process, the current rehabilitated road will serve as a detour, ensuring minimal disruption to traffic flow.

The upgrade of the Fairfields road over rail bridge aligns with the NDS2’s objective of enhancing infrastructure development in Zimbabwe. The project is part of a broader initiative to improve the country’s transportation network, including the rehabilitation of major highways such as the Harare-Beitbridge highway, the construction of the Trabablas Interchange, and the upgrading of the Harare-Chirundu road, among others.

Motorists have been advised to exercise caution and adhere to road rules and signage during the construction period. The government has put in place measures to ensure the smooth execution of the project, which is expected to improve traffic safety and reduce congestion on the Harare-Beitbridge road.

The construction of the Fairfields road over rail bridge is a welcome development, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving Zimbabwe’s infrastructure and promoting economic growth. The project is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy, creating employment opportunities and facilitating the movement of goods and services across the region.
