UAE – In a strategic move to advance digital governance and innovation, Zimbabwe’s Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Honourable Tatenda Mavetera, today engaged in high-level discussions with Omar Sultan Al Olama, United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence and Vice Chair of the World Government Summit.
The meeting focused on UAE support for Zimbabwe’s upcoming National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, coupled with plans to modernize e-government systems through mobile portals designed to enhance accessibility, service delivery, and citizen engagement.
This partnership will be implemented under the Government Experience Exchange Programme (GEEP), a platform that previously facilitated the launch of Zimbabwe’s 1.5 Million Coders Programme, a major initiative aimed at equipping the nation’s youth with critical digital skills.
Minister Mavetera underscored the strategic importance of such collaborations, highlighting the need to expand capacity-building initiatives in disruptive technologies, including AI, to drive digital transformation across both public and private sectors. He emphasized that Zimbabwe aims not only to adopt cutting-edge technology but also to embed it into systems that directly impact citizens’ daily lives.
Analysts note that this engagement with the UAE represents a deepening of Zimbabwe’s tech diplomacy, where international partnerships are increasingly linked to governance and service delivery outcomes. By leveraging UAE expertise in AI, Zimbabwe is positioning itself as a regional hub for emerging technologies, with implications for job creation, efficiency in public service, and global competitiveness.
