ZACC Says No Evidence in Chivhayo–ZEC Allegation Probe

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has closed its investigation into allegations that businessman Wicknell Chivhayo was involved in corrupt dealings with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), after finding no proof to sustain the claims.

ZACC Chairperson Michael Reza said the inquiry was triggered by accusations from businessmen Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, who alleged that Chivhayo played a role in ZEC’s procurement processes ahead of past elections. Both ZEC and Chivhayo denied any contractual links, and investigators found no documentation or communication connecting the two parties.

Reza stressed that the Commission cannot escalate a case without verifiable facts. “There is nothing to proceed with,” he said, adding that the institution deals strictly with evidence-based cases.

The allegations gained momentum following reports in South Africa about a Ren-Form CC printing contract with ZEC. However, ZACC noted that none of the information reviewed pointed to wrongdoing by Chivhayo.

The Commission indicated it is ready to reopen the inquiry if new, credible evidence is submitted.
