SADC Calls for unconditional removal of Sanctions on Zimbabwe

SADC Executive Secretary Elias Magosi

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) joined Zimbabwe to mark Anti-Sanctions Day on October 25, 2025. Established by the 39th SADC Summit in 2019, this day demands the unconditional lifting of prolonged sanctions on Zimbabwe, a founding SADC member.

SADC highlighted that sanctions have destabilized Zimbabwe and the region, harming prosperity, violating human rights, and blocking regional economic integration by restricting trade and investment.

This year’s theme, “Inclusive Development through Heritage-based Innovation and Industrialisation in a Multilateral World,” reflects the shared goal of sustainable growth amid global challenges.

SADC expressed solidarity with Zimbabwe and urged sanctioning parties, including the United States and Britain, to engage in dialogue and remove the harmful unilateral embargo.

Removing sanctions will unlock Zimbabwe’s potential and boost regional and continental prosperity.

SADC called on all 16 member states to unite in advocating for the unconditional removal of sanctions to promote inclusive development, peace, and stability.
