GMB Commits to Timely Wheat Payments as Zimbabwe Targets Food Self-Sufficiency

The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has confirmed the disbursement of USD 5 million and ZWG 15 million this week towards payments for wheat deliveries, bringing the cumulative total to USD 28 million and ZWG 230 million. This marks a critical step in supporting farmers as they gear up for the 2025 winter wheat season.

In a media release issued on 12 May 2025, GMB Chief Executive Officer Dr. E. Badarai expressed gratitude for Treasury’s continued efforts to mobilise resources under challenging fiscal conditions. “GMB greatly appreciates the resilience and undoubted commitment and dedication of our farmers as the country drives towards a wheat-based food self-sufficiency,” Dr. Badarai said.

The disbursement underscores the government’s commitment to agricultural viability and food security, especially as the nation intensifies efforts to reduce reliance on imports through local production. With wheat being a strategic crop, timely payments are crucial to maintain farmer confidence and ensure high levels of participation in the upcoming season.

GMB has encouraged farmers and the public to reach out for clarification through its Corporate Communications Department via telephone (+263 8677004941) or email (publicrelations@gmbdura.co.zw).

The timely release of funds comes at a pivotal moment as Zimbabwe ramps up preparations for an ambitious winter wheat programme aimed at building sustainable food systems and ensuring national food security, everywhere, every day.
