ZRP Urges Motorists to Stop and Report Accidents Following Fatal Hit-and-Run Cases

HARARE – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has urged motorists to stop, render assistance to victims, and report all road traffic accidents to the police within 24 hours, following three fatal hit-and-run incidents recorded on May 2 and 3, 2025.

In one of the tragic cases, an unidentified motorist fatally struck an 81-year-old woman at the 102-kilometre peg along the Harare-Mutare Road near Marondera and fled the scene without rendering aid. On the following day, a 30-year-old man was killed in a similar fashion at the 384-kilometre peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road when he was hit by another unknown driver who also failed to stop after the accident.

Police are appealing to members of the public with information that may assist investigations to come forward. They emphasized that fleeing the scene of an accident is a criminal offence and that compliance with road traffic regulations is essential to saving lives and ensuring justice for victims and their families.
