Govt Releases USD3 Million for Civil Registry Outstanding Allowances

The Civil Registry Department has announced a significant development in addressing the outstanding allowances owed to staff who participated in the 2023 national mobile registration exercise.

According to a statement issued by the department, the Government, through Treasury, has released USD3 million to partly settle the arrears. This payment comes as a relief to hundreds of personnel who were involved in last year’s mop-up registration campaign, which aimed to increase access to vital national documents, particularly in remote areas.

“The Department is pleased to announce that Government, through Treasury, has released a total of USD3 million towards settlement of the outstanding allowances. This brings us closer to settling the outstanding amounts owed to members,” read the statement.

Despite this development, the department acknowledged that a balance of USD3.7 million remains unpaid. It assured concerned personnel that efforts are ongoing, in collaboration with Treasury, to ensure the remaining amount is paid as soon as possible.

The department also expressed gratitude to the staff for their commitment and patience: “We extend our sincere appreciation to members who participated in the mobile registration exercise for their hard work, dedication and continued patience as we work towards addressing this matter.”

The Civil Registry Department reaffirmed its commitment to keeping all stakeholders informed on the progress of the payments and praised the crucial role its personnel continue to play in ensuring access to civil documentation across Zimbabwe.
