ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR DRUG AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE IN THE COUNTRY

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has intensified its nationwide crackdown on drug and substance abuse, resulting in the arrest and conviction of 41 individuals across various provinces in March 2025. These individuals, identified as drug barons and suppliers, were apprehended for a range of offences including unlawful possession, dealing, cultivation, and distribution of dangerous drugs and unregistered medicines.

The arrests span major urban centres and rural communities, with offenders coming from Harare, Bulawayo, Beitbridge, Gweru, Masvingo, Chinhoyi, Lupane, Gwanda, and beyond. Offences ranged from possession of dagga and crystal meth to the illegal sale of unregistered pharmaceuticals.

Notable arrests include:

Sithembile Chikamhi of Chiredzi and Wilfred Moyo of Beitbridge, both charged with unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs.

Gift Tauzeni of Marondera, found cultivating dagga unlawfully.

Bruno Chinande of Harare, arrested for unlawful drug dealing in the CBD.

Kudakwashe Munouya of Masvingo, caught in possession of crystal meth.

In total, sentences issued ranged from 12 months to 15 years imprisonment, depending on the gravity of the offence.

This operation is a clear demonstration of the ZRP’s unwavering commitment to eradicate drug and substance abuse, which continues to threaten the health, safety, and future of Zimbabwean communities—especially the youth.

The ZRP urges the public to remain vigilant and continue playing an active role in exposing those involved in the drug trade. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activities or known drug dealers to the National Complaints Desk at (0242) 703631 or via WhatsApp on 0712 800 197.

Let us work together to safeguard our nation from the devastating impact of drugs.
