Zimbabwe Launches DuraIsiphala263: A Game-Changing Education Data System Rooted in Local Innovation

HARARE – In a landmark move toward digitized, data-driven educational governance, the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science, and Technology Development has officially unveiled DuraIsiphala263, Zimbabwe’s first homegrown data analytics platform tailored specifically for the higher and tertiary education sector.

The system, which was launched on Monday, 14 April 2025, by the Honourable Minister Dr. Frederick M. Shava, marks a revolutionary shift from external, proprietary solutions to locally built digital infrastructure—positioning Zimbabwe as a regional trailblazer in education analytics.

DuraIsiphala263 was designed and developed entirely by Zimbabwean experts drawn from local institutions, in alignment with the nation’s Heritage-Based Education 5.0 model, which emphasizes industrialization, innovation, and modernization of education through indigenous knowledge systems. The system features real-time dashboards, integrated data repositories, and smart reporting tools to enhance evidence-based decision-making across universities, polytechnics, teacher colleges, and vocational training centres.

“This is a game-changing achievement in our education system,” said Prof. Fanuel Tagwira, Permanent Secretary for Higher and Tertiary Education. “With DuraIsiphala263, we are not just collecting data—we are transforming how we plan, monitor, and improve our institutions.”

The platform currently tracks data on:

  • Enrolment figures and inclusivity in student demographics
  • Graduate output
  • Staffing structures, qualifications, and inclusivity
  • Accredited academic programmes

Already, over 89% of higher and tertiary institutions have participated in the pilot phase, and 167 trained technical users are engaged in continuous improvement of the system. This reflects a growing community of practice and strong national buy-in for the project.

Prof. Tagwira acknowledged that the success of DuraIsiphala263 would not have been possible without the “policy guidance and visionary leadership” of His Excellency, President Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa, whose dedication to science, innovation, and education continues to lay a strong foundation for the country’s transformation.

“This launch is not just about a system,” he added. “It’s about Zimbabwe’s capacity to provide Zimbabwean solutions to Zimbabwean and global challenges. It’s a major leap toward sovereign technological advancement in the education sector.”

The Ministry has extended an open invitation to development partners, the private sector, and the media to engage with and support this milestone achievement, as the country accelerates its digital and educational transformation in line with Vision 2030.
