Government Allocates Residential Stands to Legislators Across Three Parliaments

HARARE – The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works has announced the continued allocation of residential stands to legislators who served in the 8th, 9th, and 10th Parliaments of Zimbabwe, as part of a non-monetary benefit under their conditions of service.

The initiative, which began in 2013 through a partnership between the Ministry and the Parliament of Zimbabwe, is designed to provide residential stands in urban and peri-urban areas for Members of Parliament (MPs). The benefit is a one-time entitlement and is aimed at improving the welfare of lawmakers.

In a statement issued on April 9, the Ministry confirmed that a total of 70 stands were recently allocated across three locations: 15 in Killarney, Goromonzi; 15 in Penrose, Zvimba; and 40 in Mabelreign, Harare.

To date, stands have also been allocated to Parliament in Goromonzi (188), Bulawayo (49), Chiredzi (12), Kadoma (9), and Beitbridge (5), reflecting the nationwide scope of the programme.

The Ministry said the move aligns with the government’s broader efforts to provide housing support to various groups including war veterans, women, the youth, and civil servants, in accordance with the constitutional provisions on the right to adequate shelter.

Authorities emphasized that updates on the implementation of such housing initiatives will continue to be shared with the public to ensure transparency and awareness.
