Speaking at the 11th Session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD) in Kampala, Uganda, the Zimbabwean leader said African countries must harness their collective strength to overcome persistent challenges such as climate change, poverty, and inequality.

“Our shared experiences across the continent are powerful tools,” said President Mnangagwa. “They allow us to lead with evidence, reflect meaningfully, and design practical, home-grown solutions.”

The Forum brought together policymakers, experts, and delegates under the African Union and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa to review progress on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agenda 2063.

Referencing the SADC Treaty, Mnangagwa reinforced the region’s long-term commitment to inclusive and equitable development, anchored on the eradication of poverty and sustainable economic growth.

“The SADC Vision 2050 places inclusive development at the centre of our aspirations,” he said.

Climate change featured prominently in his remarks. The President described it as one of the most severe threats to Africa’s development and security, noting that regions like Southern Africa are already witnessing its harsh effects.

Highlighting Zimbabwe’s mitigation efforts, Mnangagwa pointed to the government’s climate-proof agriculture programmes, which include tailored input support for smallholder farmers, borehole drilling, and community nutrition gardens.

“These interventions are not only enhancing food and nutrition security but also driving rural industrialisation and technological adoption,” he said.

President Mnangagwa praised the resilience of traditional knowledge systems, noting their growing role in climate adaptation strategies and community development.

He called for African governments to deepen partnerships, invest in smart farming and infrastructure, and build on South-South cooperation models to unlock growth under challenging environmental and economic conditions.

“As SADC, we are committed to ensuring that rural communities are not left behind in Africa’s development agenda,” said President Mnangagwa, underscoring that unity and innovation will be key to the continent’s transformation.
