IOC presidency beckons for Kirsty Coventry

Zimbabwe’s Kirsty Coventry (41) is on the verge of breaking history books by becoming the first African female International Olympic Committee (IOC) president if she is elected at the 144th IOC Session from 18 to 21 March 2025 currently underway in Greece.

Her election will be a significant development as she will also be the youngest ever president of the association and the first from outside Europe or North America – to lead the organisation in its 130-year history.

Zimbabweans are rallying behind her and all eyes are on this important election.

The swimming Olympic gold medalist and Zimbabwe’s Minister of Sports, Art and Recreation is vying for the post alongside six male candidates for the post.
