Zimbabwean football teams, previously forced to play home matches abroad due to the absence of CAF/FIFA-certified stadiums, are set to resume hosting games locally within six months.
The newly elected Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) President, Nqobile Magwizi, announced the development on X.
The ZIFA president intimated that his committee will work round the clock to make sure Zimbabweans once again watch their teams play at home.
“We should be able to play at home within the next six months,” he said.
Elected on Saturday, January 25, 2025, with 61 out of 72 valid votes, Magwizi has hit the ground running.
The ZIFA Normalisation Committee’s term ends on January 31, 2025.
The ZIFA Executive Committee will officially take over from the Normalisation Committee and undergo induction to begin implementing its plans.
The installation of bucket seats at the National Sports Stadium in Harare is ongoing but progressing slowly. The new committee’s arrival is expected to accelerate the process.
Approximately 30,000 bucket seats have been delivered to the National Sports Stadium, with a second batch expected this year. However, installation has been slowed by challenges, primarily power outages.
Football will soon return to the National Sports Stadium, thanks to the commitment of the ZIFA president and his committee.
