High on the agenda was the security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with SADC extending the mandate of the SADC Mission in the DRC (SAMIDRC) for another year. This move reflects the region’s collective commitment to resolving the conflict and ensuring stability. Leaders reiterated that an armed attack on one member state is a threat to all, showcasing the bloc’s determination to uphold peace through its Mutual Defence Pact.

The Summit also celebrated peaceful electoral transitions in Botswana and Mauritius, commending the nations for their orderly processes and contributing to regional democratic integrity. Leaders expressed optimism about the potential of stable governance to catalyze economic and social development.

Mozambique’s President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi updated the Summit on his country’s post-election situation, with SADC pledging unwavering support for peace and stability efforts. President João Lourenço of Angola was lauded for his mediation efforts through the Luanda Process, which has been pivotal in brokering ceasefires and advancing peace negotiations in the DRC.

SADC leaders emphasized collaboration with international partners, including the African Union and the United Nations, to bolster peace initiatives. The Summit further underscored the importance of harmonized efforts in addressing regional challenges, affirming that collective action is key to sustainable solutions.

President Mnangagwa’s hosting of the Summit was hailed as a demonstration of Zimbabwe’s leadership in fostering cooperation and unity across Southern Africa.

The event concluded with leaders expressing gratitude for the spirit of solidarity and optimism that continues to drive SADC’s vision of peace, security, and shared prosperity.
