The Government of Zimbabwe has taken a significant step towards unlocking the commercial potential of Lake Tugwi-Mukosi by appointing the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Dr. Anxious Masuka, to chair a committee tasked with overseeing the swift implementation of the Lake Tugwi-Mukosi Master Plan.
This critical move, under the guidance of Vice President General (Rtd) Constantino Chiwenga, signals a transformative era for Masvingo Province.
The Master Plan presents vast opportunities for local and international investors. From tourism ventures such as lodges, hotels, and chalets to recreational activities like boating, biking, and game drives, the area around Lake Tugwi-Mukosi is poised for development. Additionally, sectors like fisheries, irrigation, retail, and power generation offer lucrative prospects for those ready to capitalize on this initiative.
This initiative aligns perfectly with the Government’s “Zimbabwe is Open for Business” mantra. The expansive opportunities at Tugwi-Mukosi should encourage all forward-thinking Zimbabweans to invest and contribute to the growth of Masvingo Province, instead of focusing solely on urban-centric opportunities. President Mnangagwa’s consistent call to “Think Zimbabwe” emphasizes that the country’s development extends beyond Harare, with Masvingo emerging as a prime destination for business and innovation.
Rather than indulging in unproductive criticism, stakeholders are encouraged to emulate entrepreneurs like Wicknell Chivhayo, who have demonstrated a proactive approach by submitting practical proposals for development projects. By seizing these opportunities, Zimbabweans can play a pivotal role in advancing the Second Republic’s agenda of inclusive economic growth while reaping significant financial benefits.
