In a significant development for Zimbabwe’s judicial infrastructure, sugarcane giant Tongaat Hulett has partnered with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to officially open the Triangle Magistrates’ Courts, marking the first-ever establishment of such a facility in the area.
The courts were inaugurated yesterday, providing a permanent solution to the overwhelming number of criminal cases previously handled by the Triangle circuit court, which had been operating on a rotational basis.

Book NowChief Justice Luke Malaba highlighted the importance of this new facility during his address, noting the urgent need for a dedicated court to serve the Triangle and surrounding areas. The project also includes the refurbishment of the dilapidated Chiredzi Regional Court, which was originally constructed from prefabricated material and has long required a facelift.
The Triangle Magistrates’ Courts will now manage cases from Triangle and Renco Police stations, along with four police bases at Sango, Mupapa, Samba, and Mwenezi. Meanwhile, in response to a surge in murder cases in the Midlands Province, Chief Justice Luke Malaba has recently established High Court circuits in Gokwe and Gweru, aimed at clearing a backlog of 150 cases within three weeks. These efforts mark a significant step towards enhancing access to justice in rural areas and improving overall judicial efficiency in Zimbabwe.
