Zimbabwe is poised to have a steady supply of modernised elevators and escalators for the booming construction and mining industries after a leading provider of vertical transportation solutions, Excel Elevators, sealed a partnership agreement to become the official local distributor of equipment and spares parts from global manufacturing giant, Otis.
Otis is making a comeback to the local market with a relaunch scheduled for Harare on July 7 with the company’s worldwide representatives, industry association representatives, pension funds representatives, building owners, National Social Security Authority (NSSA) representatives and Government officials expected to grace the event.
Other stakeholders will be hotel representatives, hospital representatives, bankers, consulting engineers and architects will grace the occasion.
The distributorship arrangement will see Excel Elevators riding on the back of Otis to offer some of the best elevators and escalators in the industry.

“The majority of installed lifts in Zimbabwean buildings are Otis and this means that most clients are already familiar with the quality and longevity of Otis equipment.
“For the existing units, Excel Elevators will offer clients genuine Otis back up spare parts that will aid in extending the life of the equipment,” said Excel Elevators managing director, Engineer Ivan Savala.
“Zimbabweans staying in buildings with non-working elevators as a result of unavailability of spare parts will be happy to know that their problem of walking up and down countless flights of stairs will be a thing of the past as we have an abundance of spare parts together with the skills to fix these elevators.”
Excel Elevators started operations in Zimbabwe in with Eng Savala, a mechanical and manufacturing engineer, as the founding managing director working closely with Mrs Gaylord Baudi as executive director (commercial) and Mr Alexander Baudi as the finance director.
Eng Savala said their technical and commercial team was made up of widely experienced personnel ready to take up the distributorship challenge.

NSSA Occupational Safety department has over the years flagged some elevators in rise buildings for being dangerous for use and has ordered the decommissioning of those that are poorly maintained.
