They will work together to create a plan to tackle drug abuse and support those affected. Minister Kazembe’s announcement follows Cabinet decisions to approve the Zimbabwe Multi-Sectoral Drug and Substance Abuse Plan for 2024-2030. This plan aims to address the growing problem of drug abuse and its impact on public health, the economy, national security, and social stability.
In Bulawayo, residents have been encouraged to form task forces to inspect houses suspected of being drug dens, with police assistance. This call came from the Bulawayo United Residents Association (BURA) after reports that some residents were hiding drug lords or storing drugs. Drug and substance abuse is increasing, especially among young people. Every citizen is urged to help reduce this problem and support the government’s efforts to combat it. Minister Kazembe’s announcement shows the government’s commitment to ensuring communities live in peace, as drug abuse is often linked to violence. Efforts are focused on all age groups, as drug abuse affects both young and old people.
The government is working hard to arrest and prosecute those involved in drug dealing and abuse. Recently, the fine for illegal drug possession was increased from USD $30 to USD $400. The government aims to keep drug dealers under pressure to create a drug-free society. All Zimbabweans should unite in the fight against drugs.
