As we approach the end of September, there is usually a surge in motorists renewing their Motor Vehicle Licences, often overwhelming the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) system and resulting in long queues and delays in accessing services.
The current vehicle licensing system in Zimbabwe needs to be improved to avert these delays and to stop inconveniencing motorists.
One solution would be to align the payment cycle to allow both corporates and individuals to pay for insurance first, followed by a single consolidated payment for both the motor vehicle licence and radio licence at ZINARA. This approach would significantly streamline the process.
Consolidating the payments would reduce the need for multiple transactions and visits to ZINARA, making it more convenient for citizens. It would also help reduce congestion and ease the administrative burden at ZINARA, allowing for more efficient processing of licences.
Government should consider implementing an integrated payment system that allows for a single payment for all required fees, with automatic verification of insurance status. This would eliminate the need for manual checks and reduce the risk of errors.
In addition, expanding online payment options and introducing digital verification of licences could further enhance the efficiency of the system, reducing the need for physical visits to ZINARA offices and ensuring a smoother experience for motorists.
