HARARE – President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has officially commissioned the Davipel Headquarters and Integrated Agro-Processing Complex at the Sunway City Special Economic Zone, reinforcing the Second Republic’s industrialisation agenda and signalling growing private sector investment confidence in Zimbabwe’s economy.
The commissioning of the multi-million-dollar investment, comprising a state-of-the-art corporate headquarters, an advanced snack manufacturing plant and a fully integrated milling facility, marks another milestone in Government’s drive to expand domestic manufacturing, promote value addition and accelerate economic transformation under Vision 2030.
The investment comes at a time when Zimbabwe is pursuing a production-led economic model anchored on industrial expansion rather than raw commodity exports. The establishment of integrated processing facilities demonstrates the country’s transition towards manufacturing-driven growth, where agricultural produce is processed locally to increase value, create employment and strengthen domestic supply chains.
President Mnangagwa’s commissioning of the complex underscores Government’s commitment to creating an enabling investment environment that encourages private sector participation in national development. The growing number of large-scale industrial investments reflects increasing investor confidence in Zimbabwe’s economic reform agenda and the policy consistency underpinning the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).
Beyond expanding production capacity, the Davipel Industrial Complex is expected to strengthen food manufacturing by integrating milling and snack production within a single value chain. Such vertical integration improves operational efficiency, reduces production costs and enhances the competitiveness of locally manufactured products in domestic and regional markets.
The project also reinforces the strategic importance of Special Economic Zones in Zimbabwe’s industrial policy. By providing a conducive environment for investment, innovation and export-oriented manufacturing, the Sunway City Special Economic Zone is emerging as a catalyst for industrial growth, technology adoption and enterprise development.
From a national development perspective, the investment contributes directly to import substitution. Increasing local production of processed food products reduces dependence on imports, conserves foreign currency and strengthens national food security while creating opportunities for local suppliers, farmers and transport operators across the agricultural value chain.
Equally significant is the employment creation potential of the integrated complex. Manufacturing remains one of the most effective sectors for generating productive jobs, transferring industrial skills and stimulating downstream economic activity, making investments of this nature central to inclusive economic growth.
The commissioning also reflects Government’s broader strategy of strengthening collaboration with the private sector to achieve national development objectives. As Zimbabwe accelerates implementation of NDS2, partnerships between Government and industry are increasingly becoming important drivers of industrialisation, innovation and sustainable economic transformation.
The opening of the Davipel Headquarters and Agro-Processing Complex therefore represents more than the launch of new industrial infrastructure. It signals the continued evolution of Zimbabwe’s manufacturing sector into a value-added, technology-driven and investment-oriented economy capable of supporting long-term industrial competitiveness and the attainment of Vision 2030.
