Mabviravira Go 10 Points Clear After 2-0 Win Over TelOne at Rufaro

Scottland FC tightened their grip at the top of the table with a commanding 2-0 victory over TelOne at Rufaro Stadium yesterday, stretching their lead to 10 points in what was another dominant display by the league leaders.

The hosts, nicknamed Mabviravira, were relentless from the outset and nearly broke the deadlock just before halftime after being awarded a penalty. However, captain Walter Musona’s effort was well saved by TelOne goalkeeper Takudzwa Chikosi, ensuring the two sides went into the break deadlocked.

Scottland came out stronger in the second half and finally made their dominance count. Knowledge Musona delivered a dangerous free kick into the box and veteran Khama Billiat rose to head home and break the deadlock. Billiat then completed his brace after dribbling past goalkeeper Takudzwa Chikosi before calmly slotting the ball into an empty net to seal a 2-0 victory for the league leaders.

TelOne battled hard but found no way past a disciplined Scottland defence and a clinical attack. The result leaves Scottland top on 49 points and firmly in control of the title race, while TelOne remain mired in a relegation fight.

Speaking after the match, Scottland coach Norman Mapeza said he was pleased with the result but felt his side could have been more clinical.

“I am a happy man with the three points, but I thought the boys could have played much better. The first half was not what I was expecting from us,” Mapeza said.

TelOne coach Saul Chaminuka praised his team’s first-half resilience but lamented costly mistakes after the break.

“We played very well in the first half, my boys stood firm, but our opponents dominated. I can blame the mistakes made in the second half where we conceded both goals. We are fighting relegation and dropping points hurts,” Chaminuka said.

With the win, Scottland sent another strong message to their title rivals, while TelOne will need to regroup quickly to arrest their slide down the table.
