BULAWAYO – The revival of Carousel Manufacturing in Bulawayo is emerging as a notable example of Zimbabwe’s efforts to strengthen domestic industry, expand production and stimulate economic growth under the country’s re-industrialisation programme.
Once constrained by operational challenges, particularly intermittent electricity supply, the manufacturing company has significantly improved its production capacity following interventions aimed at addressing key bottlenecks affecting operations.

Book NowThe improvements follow concerns raised during a visit to the factory by President Emmerson Mnangagwa last year, after which measures were implemented to improve power availability and support increased industrial productivity.
With a more stable electricity supply, Carousel Manufacturing is now operating more consistently and is targeting production of close to 100,000 units per month, reflecting renewed operational confidence and growing manufacturing capacity.
The company’s recovery comes as Zimbabwe continues to prioritise industrial development as a key pillar of economic transformation. Government has consistently identified manufacturing as critical to job creation, import substitution, value addition and export growth under the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and Vision 2030.
Industry analysts note that reliable infrastructure, particularly electricity, remains one of the most important factors influencing manufacturing competitiveness. Addressing infrastructure constraints has therefore become central to efforts aimed at improving productivity and attracting investment into the sector.
The progress at Carousel Manufacturing illustrates how targeted interventions and collaboration between the public and private sectors can contribute to industrial recovery. Increased production capacity not only strengthens the company’s market position but also has the potential to support employment creation and stimulate economic activity throughout the value chain.
The development also reflects broader efforts to revitalise Zimbabwe’s industrial base by supporting existing manufacturers while encouraging new investment into productive sectors of the economy.
As industries continue to modernise and expand operations, manufacturing is expected to play an increasingly important role in driving economic diversification, enhancing local production and improving the country’s competitiveness within regional markets.
While challenges remain, developments at Carousel Manufacturing provide an indication of the progress being made in rebuilding industrial capacity and demonstrate the role of infrastructure support, policy interventions and investment in advancing Zimbabwe’s long-term industrialisation agenda.
The company’s expansion is expected to contribute to broader national objectives of increasing domestic production, strengthening value addition and creating sustainable employment opportunities as Zimbabwe pursues inclusive economic growth.
