Held in Harare, the gathering brought together mechanics from ten provinces under the banner of Mechanics 4ED, a skills based organisation aligning its work with economic empowerment and youth development objectives. The event was attended by the National Executive team, including Secretary General Kimberly Mutodi, Vice Secretary General Ernest Marufu, Information and Publicity Secretary Taruvinga Madzore, and Advocate Evidence Manyengamhuru.
National Chairman Commander Lovemore Gadha described the presence of Cde Voyage Dambuza, Political Commissar for Harare Province under ZANU-PF, as a mark of recognition for the mechanics’ contribution to national development.
Commander Gadha highlighted that the organisation funded the programme independently, demonstrating commitment and ownership of its empowerment initiatives. He stressed that mechanics are not merely artisans but economic contributors who create employment, transfer skills and support families across communities.“We are not coming to be beggars,” he said. “We are coming with skills, ready to contribute to the party and to national development.”
He outlined operational challenges affecting mechanics, including municipal police disruptions, rental pressures and lack of adequate workspace. He appealed for structured inclusion in empowerment programmes, particularly the Presidential Youth Empowerment framework, noting that Mechanics 4ED is actively training youths and fighting drug abuse through vocational engagement.
“Turning garages into youth training hubs is our mission,” Commander Gadha added.
In his address, Cde Voyage Dambuza underscored the importance of policy continuity and expressed support for sustained leadership in driving Vision 2030 goals. He emphasized that economic transformation requires stability, engagement and collaboration between party leadership and grassroots sectors.
“We have a common interest in supporting President Mnangagwa and ensuring Vision 2030 succeeds,” he said. “The environment created allows engagement between leadership and communities, including mechanics.”
Cde Voyage also pledged support in addressing workspace and documentation concerns, promising to facilitate engagement to ensure mechanics operate in properly designated spaces.
He commended entrepreneurship initiatives across the country and acknowledged the role of business leaders such as Kudakwashe Tagwirei in advancing economic empowerment efforts.
The dinner concluded with renewed calls for patriotic participation in economic development, as Mechanics 4ED positioned itself as a skills driven movement committed to building Zimbabwe’s economy from the workshop floor upward.
