HARARE — Mobile network operator NetOne has introduced a Reverse Calling service that allows subscribers with zero airtime to initiate calls, shifting the cost of the call to the receiving party upon acceptance.
Under the new service, a caller without airtime can dial a dedicated prefix or follow an automated prompt after attempting a call with insufficient balance. If the recipient accepts the call, charges are applied at standard call rates to the receiver. Declined calls attract no charges to either party.
NetOne said the innovation is designed to ensure continuity of communication during emergencies and critical moments, particularly for users who may not have immediate access to airtime. The service expands access to voice communication and reinforces the operator’s drive toward inclusive connectivity.
The introduction of Reverse Calling comes as mobile operators intensify their efforts to enhance the customer experience through practical, user-centered innovations. By eliminating airtime as a barrier to initiating calls, NetOne positions the service as a safety net for urgent communication needs across social, business, and emergency contexts.
The company confirmed that the service is immediately available to subscribers nationwide and works across local and international number formats supported on the network.
