Airports Company Revamps Buffalo Range Airport in Significant Uplift

The Airports Company has announced a major upgrade to Buffalo Range Airport in Chiredzi, a key aviation hub in Zimbabwe’s South Eastern Lowveld region. Located 10 kilometers northwest of Chiredzi, the airport has undergone significant airside infrastructure upgrades, enhancing its capacity to handle high-performance aircraft and boost tourism in the region.

The refurbished airport boasts a newly resurfaced 1,578-meter bituminous runway, precision-engineered to a width of 30 meters, capable of accommodating aircraft up to the Boeing 737-700 executive series. This upgrade positions Buffalo Range Airport as a premier gateway for private and non-scheduled charter flights, catering to the growing demand for access to Zimbabwe’s wildlife heartland.

Customs and immigration facilities, courtesy of the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA), are now available, streamlining the arrival and departure process for international travelers. The airport is equipped to handle private and non-scheduled charter flights, offering a convenient and efficient travel option for tourists and business travellers alike.

Buffalo Range Airport serves as a critical aviation hub for the Save Valley, Malilangwe, and Gonarezhou conservancies, renowned for their rich biodiversity and abundant wildlife. The airport, ranked as Zimbabwe’s fourth busiest, currently handles up to 20 aircraft landings per day, including international flights. The airport’s upgrade is expected to boost tourism in the region, providing easier access to these world-class conservation areas and supporting local economic growth.
