Government Rolls Out Nationwide Consultations on Road Accident Fund Bill

The Government has begun nationwide public consultations on the proposed Road Accident Fund Bill, as it moves to establish a legal framework aimed at improving compensation mechanisms for victims of road traffic accidents and strengthening road safety in Zimbabwe.

In a public notice, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development said the consultations are being conducted to gather views from citizens and key stakeholders before the Bill is finalised and tabled before Parliament.

The Permanent Secretary in the ministry invited members of the public to actively participate, stressing that the process provides an opportunity for citizens to influence legislation that directly affects road users.

According to the consultation schedule, all sessions will start at 10:00am and will be held across several provinces beginning on Thursday, 8 January 2026, in Marondera at Hopefay Hotel and Conferencing Centre. Consultations will continue on Friday, 9 January, in Mutare at the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe offices, followed by Masvingo on Saturday, 10 January, at Junior High School Hall in Rhodene.Further meetings are scheduled for Bindura on Monday, 12 January, at Bindura Primary School Hall, and Victoria Falls on Wednesday, 14 January, at Cresta Sprayview Hotel.

The date and venue for Harare consultations are yet to be announced.The proposed Road Accident Fund Bill is expected to address issues related to road accident compensation, victim support, and institutional arrangements for managing accident-related claims. Authorities say public input is critical to ensure the law reflects the needs of road users and contributes to safer roads.

Members of the public seeking further information have been advised to contact officials from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development and the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe through the provided communication channels.

The consultations come amid renewed calls for stronger road safety measures as Zimbabwe continues to grapple with road traffic accidents, particularly during peak travel periods.
