Morocco got their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign off to a winning start, beating Comoros 2-0 in Rabat. Despite a shaky beginning, the hosts found their footing in the second half, thanks to Brahim Diaz’s standout performance, earning him Man of the Match honors.
Diaz broke the deadlock in the 55th minute, firing home from inside the area after Noussair Mazraoui’s assist. Comoros goalkeeper Yannick Pandor had earlier denied Soufiane Rahimi’s penalty, but Morocco’s determination paid off. Substitute Ayoub El Kaabi sealed the win with a stunning overhead kick in the 74th minute, extending Morocco’s world-record winning streak to 19 consecutive matches.
The victory sets Morocco up nicely for their next Group A clash against Mali on Friday. The match was played in front of a crowd of 60,180 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, with Moroccan Crown Prince Moulay Hassan and FIFA president Gianni Infantino in attendance.
