Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has made a bold move, appointing fast bowler Richard Ngarava as the national men’s team captain for Test and One-Day International cricket. This marks a new chapter in the Chevrons’ leadership transition, with rising all-rounder Brian Bennett stepping in as vice-captain.
Ngarava, who debuted internationally in 2017, is a key part of Zimbabwe’s bowling lineup. He’s the first Zimbabwean to reach 100 T20I wickets and has consistently delivered impressive performances across all formats. ZC chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani praised Ngarava’s growth as a player and leader, stating,
“He commands respect within the dressing room and has consistently delivered for Zimbabwe”.

Brian Bennett
Meanwhile, Bennett, a talented young all-rounder, has advanced quickly since leading the Under-19 team and making his senior international debut in all formats by age 21. His appointment reflects ZC’s confidence in his cricketing intelligence, maturity, and long-term leadership potential.

Craig Ervine
This change comes as Craig Ervine steps down, having guided the team through an important rebuilding phase. Mukuhlani thanked Ervine for his professionalism, resilience, and dignity during a challenging period.
