President to launch National Youth Empowerment Strategy

Zimbabwe is set to host the inaugural Youth Empowerment Symposium later this month, an event that signifies the nation’s firm commitment to building an inclusive and innovation-driven economy anchored on youth participation. The symposium, scheduled for October 21 to 22, will see the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe officially launch the National Youth Empowerment Strategy, a comprehensive framework designed to accelerate the integration of young people into all facets of national development.

The government has been deliberate in ensuring that the country’s youth, who constitute the majority of the population, are equipped with the skills, tools, and opportunities needed to contribute effectively to economic transformation. The Youth Empowerment Symposium will therefore mark a significant step in consolidating efforts to build a new generation of empowered, skilled, and entrepreneurial young citizens.

Announcing the development at a media briefing in Harare, the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Honourable Tino Machakaire, said the President will officially launch the strategy, which will serve as a guiding framework for structured youth empowerment, capacity building, and economic inclusion. The President is also expected to deliver a keynote address highlighting the government’s unwavering commitment to empowering the youth and creating an enabling environment for innovation and growth.

Honourable Machakaire further outlined what participants can expect from the two-day symposium, explaining that the first day will focus on youth-led exhibitions and interactive knowledge-sharing sessions designed to inspire creativity, stimulate business curiosity, and promote collaboration. Over 200 youth-led enterprises from across the country will showcase their innovations, products, and services in key sectors such as agriculture, ICT, creative arts, sport, green energy, tourism, mining, and manufacturing.

In addition, more than 100 key stakeholders, government ministries, private sector partners, and state agencies, including institutions that support entrepreneurship, will also exhibit youth-focused products, services, and opportunities. This multi-stakeholder approach reflects the government’s inclusive model of empowerment, which brings together public, private, and community actors to ensure that no young person is left behind in the country’s developmental journey.

The Second Republic has been consistent in promoting youth-focused development programmes that recognise the critical role of young people as drivers of innovation and growth. Among these initiatives are the expansion of vocational training centres, support for entrepreneurship and startup projects, and the distribution of agricultural and mining equipment to empower young Zimbabweans with practical resources to start and grow their businesses.

Analysts note that the National Youth Empowerment Strategy comes at a crucial time when the global economy is undergoing digital transformation, demanding more agile, creative, and entrepreneurial skills. Zimbabwe’s approach, which blends vocational training with access to finance, mentorship, and market exposure, positions the country as a model for sustainable youth empowerment in the region. The emphasis on innovation and enterprise development resonates with the national vision of building a knowledge-based economy and achieving the goals of Vision 2030.

The Youth Empowerment Symposium will therefore not only be an exhibition of youthful innovation but also a strategic dialogue platform to align youth aspirations with national and regional economic agendas. It reflects the government’s recognition that the energy and creativity of young people are vital ingredients in achieving long-term economic growth, industrialisation, and digital transformation.

As preparations intensify, expectations are high that the symposium will chart new pathways for youth inclusion and participation in Zimbabwe’s economic trajectory. With the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe set to officiate, the event promises to be a defining moment in the nation’s empowerment narrative, reaffirming the Second Republic’s vision of leaving no one and no place behind in the pursuit of prosperity, innovation, and inclusive growth.

The launch of the National Youth Empowerment Strategy aligns seamlessly with the spirit of Vision 2030, which envisions an upper middle-income economy anchored on inclusive participation, innovation, and productivity. It also resonates deeply with the legacy of National Youth Day, a day that celebrates the potential, resilience, and creativity of Zimbabwe’s young people. By empowering the youth through policy, resources, and structured opportunities, the Second Republic is not only investing in the country’s future workforce but also nurturing the next generation of leaders, innovators, and nation builders. This renewed commitment transforms youth empowerment from mere rhetoric into measurable action, re
inforcing the President’s vision of a prosperous Zimbabwe driven by the strength, energy, and ingenuity of its young citizens.
