President ED Mnangagwa has declared the late long-serving Executive Chairperson of ZESA Holdings,, Dr Sydney Gata, a national hero.

The conferment of the hero status is in recognition of his immense contribution to Zimbabwe’s power supply and infrastructure development.

Dr Gata passed away on Thursday night at the age of 79 after a short illness.

Burial was set for Wednesday, 9 July 2025 at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.
