HARARE – ZESA Holdings has announced an increase in load shedding across all customer groups following a technical fault at the Hwange Power Station, which has reduced the country’s available electricity supply.
In a statement issued on Saturday, May 4, 2025, the power utility said its technical team is working to rectify the problem and restore normal operations as quickly as possible.

Hwange Power Station is Zimbabwe’s largest thermal power plant and plays a central role in the national grid. The latest disruption is expected to intensify the ongoing power challenges affecting households, businesses, and critical services nationwide.
ZESA apologised for the inconvenience caused and urged the public to bear with the utility as efforts continue to restore full functionality at the affected station.
The utility has not provided an estimated timeframe for the restoration of normal electricity supply.
